Week 59: its like right when I think my mission just can't get any crazier BAM

hiiiiiiiiiii

I have a couple of crazy stories for you all. Lets just get started aye?

so the craziness all started Thursday night, at 10:27, when I recieved a phone call from President May. He said, " Hi Hna Poyfair, how are you? oh thats good. Hey listen Hna, you know tomorrow we are going to have a Conference in Temuco with Elder Packer (from the 70) right? Yeah, well listen. In the morning, he wants to have a meeting with all of the leaders in the morning. And well, you were going to recieve your transfer Saturday, but I am calling you now to tell you that you are going to be a new Hermana Capacitadora (Sister Training Leader)!"

And so, yes, it's true. I am going to Lebu, to be an Hermana Cap over 2 zones, each zone with 4 hermanas. My companion is Hermana Guibarra, from Bolivia.

Well, that night, I was sort of freaking out a lot. I started to get a LITTLE discouraged, and I was feeling super inadequete. Like, my spanish isn't good enough, I don't feel spiritual enough, I haven't had baptisms in my mission so far, I CAN'T BE A LEADER RIGHT?

but, I felt calm and I knew that's what God wanted.

So the next morning I arrived at this meeting, feeling a little stressed, but it was super great and I learned lots and I am excited to for this new calling. The conference was awesome too, Elder Packer talked lots about the Doctrine of Christ, and that if we really put our minds and hearts to it, we can have baptisms every single week of our mission. Wow.

Well, anyways, after the Conference, one of the Asistants to the President came up to me and said, "Hermana Poyfair? Elder Packer wants to have an interview with you!"

Elder Packer. He's the son of Boyd K. Packer. He's FAMOUS.
It was the most special experience of my mission so far. He started by asking me a few questions, and then asked if I had questions for him. I said, "how am I supposed to be
a leader when I haven't had a single baptism and I don't feel like I can do this?"

Elder Packer looked at me and said, "Hermana Poyfair, its really interesting, because maybe you haven't had the success that you deserve. But Hermana, you can be sure that God is happy with the work you have done and with the mission you have served so far, because he is trusting you with this sacred calling. You have been called because you are patient, loving, and humble, and you are going to help this missionaries have success on their missions. and, by doing so, you will have success on your mission."

I know that God is real and that his plan is SO PERFECT and that he really knows us better than we know ourselves. I am nervous and excited, but I know this calling is going to be a blessing and that I am going to learn so much.

Thank you for all of your prayers and for your support. I wouldn't be here in Chile without your help.

This is God's work and its so perfect and I love it so much.

BRING IT ON.

I love you all!

love Hermana Poyfiar

Week 58: Hi I'm Hermana Poyfair and I finally have a real living breathing companion

YES. Its true. I'm not the only missionary in Llaima anymore.

I'm just so happy.

Last Tuesday, I recieved a funny call from President May.

"Hi Hna Poyfair, Good news! I found you a bnahioiañogaiñ"

and I was like, "wait what?"

they were driving through a canyon and didn't have a lot of service, and so after about 5 minutes of trying, I finally heard him say, "hna poyfair I found you a companion and her names Hna Peña and she'll be down there on Friday okay BYE."

I think it was the happiest phone call I have recieved in my whole mission!

So anyways, now I am with Hna Peña. She is from Santiago, and she is seriously so SWEET. She had to send a companion home because of health problems too so we just have so much in common and it has just been so great. BUT. President told us that there is a possibility that we will only be together for a week because next week is transfers so we are a little nervous but its all good because AT LEAST I HAVE A COMPANION. :)

I also got to be companions with Hermana May this week! She is the wife of President, and she was down here in temuco and wanted to help me a little bit which was so sweeet. But, I was nervous! like, it was super intimidating!

But it was actually super awesome. hermana may is great, and she served a mission in Spain so she speaks a lot of spanish and gets a long very well with the people here in Chile. We saw lots of miracles together. We found a family of three who had been listening to missionaries a couple of years ago, but lost contact with them and were really sad that they never came back! So anyways, we're pretty excited about that. As we left there house, Hermana May looked at me and said, "When they get baptized, you have to call me so I can come down and be here for it."

so tender.

Also yesterday Diana came to church with us! She is our investigator who is super super great and has lots of REALLY hard questions to answer. She really liked the church and learned a lot and said she was excited to go back next week so thats a miracle. Llaima's on FIRE.

this week I am nervous for transfers but I am pretty sure I am going to stay here because I like Llaima a lot and don't want to leave.

anddddd thats my week!

I love you all MUCHISMO.

gracias por todo!

con amor,

hermana poyfairrrrr

Week 57: This week was crazy but what else is new :)

This letter might be a little long but thats okay right?

Well. This week was crazy and super fun. This trio is fun, Hna Chavez and Hna Brandao are super crazy and we get along great so that all really helps.

I recieved a call from President this last week saying, "Hna Poyfair, Hna Chavez and Hna Brandao have to come up to Concepcion this week for a conference for all the new missionaries and their trainers. I am calling you because I wanted to invite you to come up here too with the other Hermanas. Do you want to?"

I was SUPER excited because I haven't been to Concepcion since February of the last year. So like, yeah, obviously I wanted to go too.

So I'm all excited and ready to go and then I wake up on Thursday morning and BAM. I had a fever and a sore throat and I was basically sicker than a dog. Butttttt I wasn't going to pass up the opportunity to go to Conce so I just didn't say anything until I got on the bus. And it was a very very very long bus ride but it was okay because then we finally arrived. President and Hermana May came to pick us up from the Bus Terminal, and we got to stay the night in the Mission Mansion. It was SO cool and so big. They made us dinner and breakfast and just spoiled us like crazy and it was so so nice.

Then, the next morning we got to pass by and see the temple. They started building the temple in October of 2015, and when I saw it in February, there was basically nothing there. But, its progressed a TON. its sooo pretty and you can already feel the spirit so strong there. Oh my gosh its incredible. My favorite temple by far. I am attaching a picture. :)

The conference was great and I learned lots and it kinda made me want to train but at the same not really ya know? I don't know. But, it was great. President was awesome and my old Zone Leader, Elder Quintero from Columbia got called to be Assistant so that was exciting too.

Something funny that happened this week...

We were in a lesson with one of the Investigators of the Hermanas, and he has this little kitten thats like 1 month old. So I'm like there, petting it and playing with it and its sitting on my lap and I just fell in love with this baby kitty and then this man says, "Yeah, we've had this cat for about a month, but we are thinking about getting rid of it because its just COVERED in fleas."

I smiled politely and quickly put the freaking cat on the ground.
yes. that really happened.

covered in fleas now. yay

and yeah one more cool story.
Last night we were working in Llaima. It was like 9 o'clock, and we weren't sure what else to do with our time. So I said, "LETS PRAY!" so we prayed. right there, in the middle of the street. seriously. and as we finished, all three of us walked right up to the first house, and knocked. And they opened the door and they were these really cute old ladies that hurriedly let us in and we taught a lesson and it was all just so SO COOL. The Lord seriously answers our prayers. My testimony grew a lot after this experience.

But thats about it!

I hope you all have a great week.

you guys rock.

love yall.

Week 56: ...another one bites the dust...

Hello, my name's hermana poyfair and you can just call me the killer or something

yes its true, I am companionless again.

let me explain.

This last week was SO SO GREAT. Hermana Avello arrived and went straight to work. We contacted and contacted and found so many new investigators. We found 6 new people to teach last week, and they are all super great!

Wednesday we had a Zone Attack in Llaima! All of the missionaries in our zone came and worked in our sector with us. One companionship found someone named Marcelo who literally had been praying for missionaries to knock on his door when the Elders arrived. We were so happy and felt so great!

The next day, we did splits with some young women from the ward. I was paired with a 17 year old girl named Valentina! She's really cute but super shy. We were contacting a street, and after a few houses, I looked at her and said, "do you want to contact this person?" and she said, "no gracias!"
I laughed because I know I was like that at the beginning of mission too.

but anyways, Thursday night, Hermana Avello started to complain a little bit about some headaches and stomach problems that she was having. She started crying and said she felt like she needed to go home. My heart like stopped haha... We went to the doctors to see if she had some sort of problem, and the doctor informed us that she was very very stressed and needed to relax..

so anyways, we recieved a very sad call from President yesterday informing us that it would be better if she headed home because her health was more important than the mini mission.

andddddd I'm back in a trio..

its so crazy, seriously. God has a sense of humor or he's teaching me something that I am having a VERY hard time learning. But either way, I am accepting it with a smile! Everything happens for a reason and God's plan is so perfect.

ohhhh we definitely had a miracle this week! On Friday, it rained. but it didn't just rain. it POURED. it rained so so so so much. Like, more rain than I have ever seen in my life. I was upset at first because its hard to be a missionary in the rain.

BUT. Almost all of the fires in the southern part of Chile were put out because of the rain and thats a miracle and a blessing and I knew God was answering our prayers and I am grateful for that! Yay Chile!

but thats basically all I got. I hope you all have a good week! I love y'all!
love hermana poyfair

Week 55: Something smells like its burning oh wait thats just Chile

its true.
Chile is on FIRE.

Its actually super crazy. At first all of the wildfires were just in the northern part of the country, but this week they started to hit the south. They still haven't reached Temuco yet, but some of the little towns outside of the city are burning. BUT ITS ALL GOOD WE HAVEN'T BURNED YET

this week was crazy!

on monday, I recieved such a happy call from President May telling me that Hermana Avello was able to come and be my companion earlier! Wooooo! She arrived on Friday and its been so freaking great. We have seen so many miracles together. She has this way of connecting super quickly with the people here, whereas sometimes with me its a little harder because I'm not from this country. But seriously, we have found SO MANY new people to teach and Its been great. Its been a while since I have been able to work this hard and so my feet are tired and I'm a little sunburnt but I am SO STINKING HAPPY

God is real and he loves us so much man

The coolest thing happened yesterday! We were walking and knocking doors, looking for new people to teach! Except in Chile, you don't know doors, you yell, "ALO" really loudly and the people open their doors. So anyways. We were yelling at one house, and the neighbor of this house opened her door! She looked at us, poor little things dying in the heat of summer, and said, "do you guys want some juice?"

do you believe in tender mercies because I sure do!

So anyways, we entered her house and she served us some juice and frozen peaches and then started talking, and asking lots and lots of questions and talking about her family. her name is Diana, and she seriously is so great. All of the problems and trials she's passing through right now can be solved with the beautiful message that we have. She told us she has gone to her church her whole life, but that she feels super judged and like she doesn't have any friends at Church!

Well, on Friday we practiced teaching about the importance of going to church, and how really when we share our testimonies about the blessings with recieve when we go to church, the spirit well testify and give people desires to see what its really like there.

I felt really prompted in this moment to do the same with Diana. I explained to her how in the Church we can find really friends who believe the things we do, who accept us as we are, and who support us in every aspect of our lives. She looked at me and said, "what do I need to come to your church then?"

it was so great and she is going to come to church this week and we are just happy little campers here.

the mission rocks and i just love the things I am learning..

today I complete 13 months and thats SO CRAZY where has the time gone I don't even know but what I do know is that this Church is true and that God is real and he loves us all SO MUCH.

I love you all!
have a good week! keep Chile in your prayers please!
