Week 1: Loving life in the Mexico MTC

HI GUYS

oh my goodness its FINALLY Pday! It has been such a long week!!!!

Mexico is soooo fantastic. Like its the prettiest place ever. and the CCM is BEAUTIFUL!!!! I think I was kind of expecting it to be this huge building in the middle of the city, and it is in the middle of this huge city, but its like this beautiful campus that is super spread out. I don´t know how to describe it, but its great.

Okay so the PLANE RIDE WAS SO COOL. There were thirty missionaries on my plane, and twenty of them are heading to Chile! it was sooooo cool and so fun. Once we landed, we got on this rusty old bus and drove for like half an hour to the CCM. and Mexican drivers are CRAZY!!!!! I swear we almost crashed like four times. but the coolest thing was when we pulled up to the gates of the ccm! its guarded by this huge wall around the whole perimeter and we literally can´t see anything. I kind of feel like I´m in divergent haha!

My companion is the CUTEST! Her name is Hermana Norton, and She is from California and she is 22! She went to 2 years of school up at BYUI before coming here. We get along so well, we´re basically best friends already. I feel like I´ve known her my whole life.

New Years at the CCM was kinda lame... We didn´t really celebrate it, but you better believe the mexicans did! We seriously heard fireworks all night long. and all of the next day. and the next night. and we still hear them even though its been like a whole week haha!

Okay so Spanish is so hard. Like. I thought I knew way more of it than I actually did. and its hard because the teachers just seriously sit and talk spanish at us. BUT. It´s cool. I seriously love the language, and I have already learned so much, its ridiculous!

So on our second day in the CCM, they told us we were going to teach an "investigator" a 30 minute lesson in spanish... UMM HELLO I DIDNT EVEN KNOW SPANISH AT ALL!!!! lemme tell ya, it was super rough. we finished early and didn´t know what to say and it was kind of embarassing to be honest. so me and Hermana Norton decided that we were never going to have that happen to us again. so we sat down the next day and totally scripted our whole entire lesson. Like. We had every single word mapped out and we thought it would be great. and it went okay! We felt like it was good, but later that night our "investigator" who is actually our teacher told us that while it is so important for us to learn the language here and work on saying things right, the language of the spirit is far more important. he said that it was hard for him to feel the spirit when we just sat and read things, and they didn´t come from our hearts. SOOOOOO we decided to abandon the books and let the spirit guide us. and guess what. WE TAUGHT A 30 MINUTE LESSON IN SPANISH WITH NO BOOKS and it was so so crazy. Like. I don´t even know how it happened. the spanish just like flowed out of our mouths. it was seriously such a cool experience, it really made me think of Proverbs 3;5-6 which has become my favorite scripture, Trust in the Lord. There was no way we could have done that without his help. and every lesson just keeps getting better! I LOVE IT HERE!!!!

My district is so fun. On saturday during gym time we played sand volleyball, and we aren´t supposed to get competitive with our sports here, but we totally beat them. I got this huge bruise on my thumb afterwards, but so worth it. Its so nice and warm here and I love being able to stay outside like all day, its definitely not like utah hahaha.

I don´t have a ton of time left but I really am just having a blast here. it really is so true, that the days feel like weeks and the weeks feel like days. I feel like I have been here for EVER!!!! but I love it so much! I miss you guys!!! Have a fantastic week!

love hermana poyfair

oh and the first picture is all of our books and flash cards that we carry on a daily basis... it only lets me send one at a time so I will send a couple!
